New Cobblestone Gallery Antiques Website Gets Inspiration from 91 Year Old Mentor
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 26, 2011
Cobblestone Gallery brings a new age to a timeless past with the creation of a new website inspired by the passion from its 91 year old mentor.
Think selling antiques and maybe not too much of a stretch that a woman of 91 would be in her element. But when you think of someone 30 years old, normally the antique business is not your first go to response.
Owner David Flores says, “It all started with an intense friendship with a wonderful woman named Felicia. She began her love affair with antique collecting when coming to this country shortly after surviving the camps of Russia during WWII. She was 29 at the time. Over the many years to follow, she just found herself naturally drawn to antiquing. Like a moth drawn to a flame, she was off and flying high. Not speaking a word of English and having a husband and three small children, she took any spare moment to self-educate and read anything and everything she could get her hands on having to do with antiques. All the while she would scrap and save literally any extra penny for that ‘special find’ when the time came.”
Flores continues, “You can certainly see a pattern coming, there came and went hundreds of special finds which accumulated to no less of her own small museum of collectibles over the next 60 years. Although her dream was to someday open a small antique shop, it never materialized.”
Quickly David recalls, “You’re probably asking what this has to do with 91 and a new generation. I’m getting to that.”
Flores remembers the story his dear friend Felicia tells, “During her generation, this time is when San Francisco (as well as countless other places) was frequented by many collectors due to its large abundance of antique stores.” Felicia remarked, “Even the well-known stores like Gump’s was a place that catered to many of the finest antiques drawing celebrities and royalty from around the world.”
To her sadness this era seemed to come to an end. Felicia recounts, “Times have changed and younger people don’t seem to be drawn to this style like before.”
“I finally reach the point to my story”, as Flores is quick to admit might seem long winded. “Cobblestone Gallery was created out of a love for our very dear friend Felicia. She is more than a friend really, more like a surrogate mother and definite mentor. She is an amazing 91 years young and hooked me and my partner on the same love of antique collecting she has shared for over 60 years. She still goes out with us on treks (when she can) in finding the very best of Antiques, Art, Collectibles and Jewelry. We try to bring customers a large variety of items and pricing to accommodate most any buyer or collector.”
So you see, says David, “At 91, she is still working strong and at 30, I start this new venture in antiquing. What seems like a natural bridge from one generation to another – David insists, “You’re never too young or too “old” to start something new or make an old passion into a reality.”
With a chuckle, he adds, “Next time you have the pleasure of meeting someone 91 years of age, spend a little extra time listening and you might find a new adventure yourself.”
